Gluten Free Finds

I have been shopping at Loblaws lately and they have expanded their GF section slightly, but the prices are still a little high and they are never well stocked.
Don’t know why, but I hardly ever go into Metro [formerly A&P]. I just happened to be in there one night because I needed milk and they are open until midnight. You know, late at night is one of the best times to go. The shelves are either being stocked or have just been, and there is no one around – it is really quiet! I had forgotten how much I used to enjoy going in late at night and just being able to go down the aisles and discover new items.

Well, imagine my delight when I happened upon a new section of Gluten Free items they had just started to carry. I was so excited they had GF Mac and cheese in a box for only $1.99! That was a steal and peanut chewy bars 5 for $3.99. They also had croutons, flour, pancake mix, rice crackers and a variety of other items. All item were under the Irresistibles Brand.

The first night I purchased the Mac and cheese, my DD was excited. She had high hopes of this Mac and cheese [because it is from a box] tasting like KD. Luckily, she was right, she loved it! Even though she says my Mac and cheese [that I make lovingly from scratch] is great, this was now her new favourite.

I also purchased the pancake mix and the chewy bars. Both were hits. I have to say I have become slightly addicted to the chewy bars [the peanut butter ones] they remind me of the inside of an O Henry bar.

Kudos to Metro and the Irresistible Brand for coming out with these products, hopefully other stores will follow as more and more people look for Gluten free items. Guess I will be shopping there a little more from now on.

Are there special GF products you have found that are a great value and taste great as well? Please don’t be shy, comment below.

    1. Thanks for stopping by Elsa. I am eating out of necessity, as is my daughter. We both feel much better and even though it can be hard for a tween, she does not even want to try and go back. Cooking gluten free is not that difficult. it is actually really healthy for you, makes you stop buying a lot of boxed goods! ‘)
