Summer in Tremblant, not just a winter destination.

Why summer in Tremblant?

Mont Tremblant sits amidst the Laurentian mountains in Quebec; just a short hour and a half from either Ottawa or Montreal.  At an elevation of 2871 ft.,  it is known as a spectacular winter playground.  But let me tell you…. spending summer in Tremblant should be on your destination list!

Referred to by the Algonquins as the Trembling mountain (Mont Tremblant). They believed that there was a deity living in the mountain that would make the mountain “tremble” when he was upset, thus the name.

Where to start

Arriving in the lower village, you are greeted with a variety of great accommodations to suit many tastes and budgets.  As part of the press group, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express along the main street.  It is perfectly situated and complete with daily breakfast and WiFi and is just a short walk from the Cabriolet and Starbucks.

The suites here have a separate eating/kitchen space along with a living area that includes a fold out couch and a lovely fireplace for those cool winter nights. The separate bedroom makes it a perfect venue for a family stay,  or just a weekend getaway. The kitchen is completely outfitted, so anyone looking to save money on eating out or preferring to make their own meals can do that very easily.

Quaint Village

Heading out to check this quaint village, you are taken aback by the wonderful European style streets and the abundance of lovely boutiques and restaurants.

Jump onto the Cabriolet ( open air village gondola) at the Place des Voyageurs and head up to the base of the mountain, just be sure to check out the spectacular views on the way up and down!  The Cabriolet runs daily from 10am to 7pm and is free of charge in case you want to take the scenic route either way.

Once you get off the Cabriolet at the top, there are a variety of activities ( wall climbing etc.) to keep kids entertained before heading to the mountain on the Gondola or taking one of the many trails from the base of the mountain.

So many things to do during summer in Tremblant.

If you are into boating or want to head to the beach, Tremblant also has that as well… who knew?  The lake and the beach area are located on Lac Tremblant with great views of the mountains;  there is a shuttle service throughout the day between the village and the fully serviced beach.

The village connects to the resort via a 1.2 km loop along the 11.4KM paved path that is perfect for biking, walking or in line skating.  Bikes from traditional to electronic can be rented to make the ride a little easier for you.

It was raining the morning we were supposed to go, so we missed out… now I wish I had taken advantage of the electric bike.

New favourite activity

One of my favourites was the Ziptrek tour. I was a bit fearful at the beginning, but that feeling disappeared quickly.

I had never done this before, but I had wanted to try zip lining for a while.  If you are going to try it, this is the best place as they have one of the safest strapping systems.

Be prepared,  a jacket with good zippers to carry all you need is a good idea, and although I had a pair of trekking sandals on, I would recommend wearing hikers if you have them.  They will give you more support during the trekking between platforms.

Standing on the platform looking out to the incredible view below takes your breath away… but the exhilaration of stepping off that platform is unbelievable!  The fourth zip line was my favourite and I believe the longest one… I can’t wait to do this again! Definitely an adrenaline rush!

Tranquility of the water

Parc National Mont Tremblant is a provincial park located a short distance from Mont Tremblant. It is roughly 1500 sq km. Along with amazing hiking trails (it has its own Via Ferrata), they have incredible canoeing and kayaking.

A slow, guided, meandering canoe ride was the perfect outing down this section of Rivière du Diable. It is so peaceful, and somehow grounding to be out on the water.

Seeing wildlife along the way was an extra treat. I can’t remember if I have ever seen a beaver building a dam before.

I enjoyed having the guide accompany us, he was a wealth of information and pointed out many spots to look for along the way.

After a lunch break set amongst a lovely view of the mountains, we hiked up to the Chute du Diable. Incredible to imagine the very same river we meandered along was now so full of power and energy.

Time to re-energize

After a day full of activities, it was nice to head back to the village to regroup and relax.

At night, the village comes alive with all the events happening throughout the summer. The patio tables fill with villagers and visitors alike looking for sustenance.

Gourmet delights

Tremblant has a variety of restaurants to suit everyone’s tastes. Most are able to accommodate special meals, so I was never left without a fantastic meal to enjoy.

The  Microbrasserie La Diable has a craft brewery on site.  Although I did not partake in the sampling,  they have a great variety for others to sample. They have an extensive menu with many gluten free items marked right on the menu. I chose the Grilled salmon, served with rice pilaf, vegetable mix, with a garden salad. The servings were all very generous and my salmon was quite lovely.

We had the perfect weather to enjoy sitting on the patios during our meals. The SoCalKitchen was another wonderful restaurant we tried, again some great menu items and many gluten free options for me to choose. They were able to substitute a quinoa side dish for me vs the fries that normally come with the steak. ( The fries are not cooked in a dedicated fryer.)

Our last evening, we dined at La Forge Tremblant,  a lovely bistro with a great patio area and a Grill Restaurant on the second floor. We enjoyed our meal on the patio listening to the music from the Blues Festival coming from the main stage just a short distance away.  Again a great meal, the manager came out to discuss meal options with me and what could be substituted.  I decided on a Kale salad with green apple and caramelized walnuts, which was marked as gluten free on the menu.  The salad was delicious, and a surprisingly very large portion.

Summer Events

Strolling the village at night is always a favourite thing to do, especially during the summer when there are many outdoor events that take place.  The International Blues Festival was going on the week we were there, and it was wonderful being able to go from stage to stage to listen to the different performers.

Summer in Tremblant

There are so many activities for you to enjoy at Mont Tremblant during the summer, choosing which to do may be difficult!

Are you a yoga enthusiast?  Wanderlust Yoga Festival is happening during the August 24-27th weekend.  If you go, make sure to check upcoming events happening in Mont Tremblant during the time of your visit.

Have you been to Mont Tremblant? I would love to hear what you enjoyed the most during your visit. If you haven’t been, what would you like to do during the summer in Tremblant?

*I would like to Thank Quebec Tourism, Tourisme Laurentide, and Mont Tremblant Tourism for hosting me on this wonderful trip! All opinions as always, are my own.

  4. I love exploring winter destinations in summer too, mainly because i am terrible at winter sports and I don’t like the cold. Snow is beautiful but too cold, lol. Tremblant looks wonderful in summer and there seem to be so many things to do. I’d love to try out the zipline, the scenery is definitely work exploring from up high.

  9. Mont Tremblant looks like a destination I’d love to visit! First of all, the scenery seems gorgeous. Secondly, gourmet delights? Yes, please! Your salmon with a salad looks fresh, healthy, and delicious. I’m hoping I can visit when I’m in Quebec for the Women in Travel Summit next spring!

  10. Hello Rosanna! Funny, I was in Tremblant this summer and didn’t make it to the mountain top. You were in Mont Tremblant and didn’t make it to the best chocolate shop in the region! I spent my time with Christine Blais of Palette de Bine, one of Quebec’s finest bean to bar chocolate makers. Looks like we will both have to return to continue exploring.

    1. Too funny, yes…. looks like we will both just have to return….. 🙂 We had a pretty tight schedule but will have to remember to check it out next time… I love anything chocolate!
