This winter season has been jam packed full of different events happening on the tv screen…not that I am complaining. It has been great getting to watch all the Olympic events that have been on and next up is Oscar night, coming up on March the 2nd!
I am looking forward to the Oscars, there are some great movies and actors that have been nominated! Excited that Ellen Degeneres is making her return as host, I find her extremely funny and genuine. I am also looking forward to seeing the winners of the Team Oscar contests – the students who will be handing the Oscars to the stars. What an incredible experience for these film students, I am sure they will remember this night for a while.
I do have to say, hands down …my favourite part is watching the Red Carpet… I envision myself stepping out of the car onto the red carpet someday… [well, a girl can dream] 🙂
Watching the stars all glammed up is always such a treat [partly because I have never been to a elegant black tie/swanky event, so it is nice to live vicariously through them]. I also like to see what the latest designers have come up with to match the different stars’ personalities and styles. Sometimes, the gowns are incredible and enhance the beauty of the stars so perfectly, and at other times they are not such great fits and detract from the stars’ elegance. But it is still wonderful to see what they are wearing and see all the beautiful jewelry that has been loaned to them to showcase.
My friends and I have gotten together in the past to watch, but this year my daughter and I are getting Red Carpet ready to watch together. She has a couple of favourite movies that she is hoping will do well and so do I. [American Hustle and 12 years a slave]. We will cuddle up and relax in front of the screen and have our own little ‘Oscar party’ with a delicious treat that is sweet and rich, and elegant enough to serve for a Red Carpet event. Best of all…. made with Chex – the perfect party mix food- Chex, it is a favourite around here- we love it, especially because it is gluten free! This is a little twist on an old favourite – we were going to go for a sweet and and salty mix but decided we wanted to be a little more decadent.
Getting Ready Carpet ready
Chocolate Brittle Chex
-
1 cup butter
-
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
-
1 small pkg of chocolate chips [I prefer dark] [approx 200gm]
-
4 ½ cups Chex
Preheat oven to 350.
Cover a cookie sheet with foil, butter or spray, spread chex out onto foil so that none is overlapping.
Microwave butter on high for 2 minutes, stir after 1 minute. Add brown sugar and stir to dissolve a bit.
Microwave on high for 2 more minutes, checking every 30 seconds and stirring, be careful will be hot. Pour over Chex.[ I like the mix in the Chex so it is all covered, but you can also just pour over top]
Bake 5 minutes (watch carefully should bubble but can burn easily). Take out of oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over chex.
Once the chips have softened [after a couple of minutes], spread across the chex – you can either mix up with Chex or leave spread across the top. Refrigerate 1 hour. Break into pieces. Enjoy!
