CAA to the rescue – help for battery failure.

Has your car battery ever failed you?

One of the things that I take for granted… and that we don’t always think about when it comes to our cars,  is caring for our battery to keep it running our car properly. We get in the car, turn it  on and always expect the car to turn over. Well…One very cold winter day last year, I got a little surprise.

The car wouldn’t start … It had been a couple of days since I had started the car and it had been quite cold (too cold for me to venture out of the house!).  Luckily, I always park the car in our insulated garage but it had been colder than usual. The last thing that I had done before getting out of the car was to plug in my earpiece so that it would be fully charged next time I got in the car.  (Not good) The interior light went on when I opened the door (although dim), but there was not enough power to start the car. Luckily, I had my trusty CAA membership and gave them a call. Even though I am sure that they were quite busy because of the cold weather and many other calls, there was someone out to help me within 20 minutes. (My husband had helped me push the car out of the garage to make it easier for CAA when they came.) CAA The driver was very friendly and helpful- he got out his kit to test the battery and see how it was doing — once it was done, I got a full printout- very cool!  I loved that, it told me exactly how my battery was doing. It was drained but did have a little life left in it even though it was well over its 5 yr mark. (Most batteries generally don’t last past 4 years even if they are rated for 5) The driver gave me boost to charge it and said to drive around for a bit to get it fully charged but that I should look into getting the battery replaced as soon as possible, especially with the weather we were having and the fact that it was 5 years old. – I was pushing it. I had mentioned to him that would be seeing my brother and that he could get me a battery at cost as he had had his own shop for years and would still order parts now and then. The whole thing took less than 20 minutes and I was able to get on my way. 🙂 And I didn’t have to get towed anywhere!

That is what I love about CAA; I can always count on them no matter what! If I had needed a new battery right then, I could have had them do it right away as well. If you buy a battery from CAA, there’s no extra charge on installation, in addition, members can save $15 on the purchase. The battery is backed by a 6-year warranty, including three years free replacement and three years prorated guarantee.

CAA is the only battery service provider that can diagnose and install a battery at your home, office, or other location. Simply call 1-800-CAA-HELP, the trained representative will come test, replace, and take your old battery and safely recycle it. You can also get a free battery quote online. . Do you know what to do to help care for your battery? Even though most batteries sold on the market these days our maintenance free, there are still a few things that you can do to help keep your battery running as smoothly as possible and for a bit longer. As fall starts, taking care of your battery is another one of the things that should be on the to do checklist.

Here are some great tips to help extend your battery life, but you can also help by doing some of these simple things:

  •     Try to start the vehicle frequently, don’t let sit without driving for long periods – helps especially in colder weather.
  •     If you have a garage, use it.
  •     Don’t leave a lot of unnecessary things plugged into the car. Especially if you are not going to be driving the car for a bit (ok…my bad!)
  •     Become a CAA Member! 🙂

  1. Great tips! I’m glad CAA came to your rescue! My car battery is overdue for a replacement and every winter morning, I always think that this is going to be the morning that it doesn’t start!

  2. Thankfully, my car battery hasn’t failed on me yet but that is one of my worst fears – especially on a high way or the opposite, on a stranded road! I am definitely looking into CAA. I would feel so much more at ease

    1. I love the peace of mind, but it is also great for all the rewards!

  3. I am so comforted when I drive by the fact that I have CAA coverage. The rewards are great, too!

    1. Ditto to both! 🙂 wouldn’t be without it!

  4. Battery hasn’t died on me up to this point.

  5. I called CAA for battery replacement service today (Sunday) and they wouldn’t do it because its too cold. Service might be available by Tuesday. I’m driving to airport Tuesday morning at 4am so that’s useless.

    1. OH no… I am sorry to hear that… I have never had that happen… :/ They are usually very good. Did you try again?
